2 week residency at VARC in Northumberland, collaborating with Bethan Harris.
VARC’s final Full Circle programme saw 31 former VARC artists in residence return to Highgreen, many of whom collaborated with other artists and musicians.
The landscape surrounding VARC has been a significant influence for artists Bethan Harris and Maura Hawkes, since both taking part in residencies at VARC during their time studying at Newcastle University. During the Full Circle residency both artists explored the surrounding landscapes through drawing, printmaking and experimenting with foraged materials.
As part of the residency Bethan and Maura ran workshops for 8 Newcastle University Students, visited Unison Colour’s pastel workshop and James Hugonin’s art studio.
Imagery of wide skies, pine trees, and glowing full moons influenced both artists work which was shown in an exhibition concluding the Full Circle programme on Saturday 6th September 2025 at Highgreen.
